The Gender Studies Concentration Opening Ceremony
The Gender Studies Concentration (jointly-offered by ten departments from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences) held its official launch on February 13, 2017 in collaboration with the Library.

Six main guests officiated the Opening Ceremony, including Prof. Ricky WONG, Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Prof. CHEN Zhi, Acting Dean of Arts; Prof. Adrian BAILEY, Dean of Social Sciences; Prof. John ERNI, Co-Chair, Gender Studies Concentration Management Committee (CMC) and Head of Department of Humanities and Creative Writing; Prof. Clara HO, Co-Chair, Gender Studies CMC and Head of Department of History; and Mr. Paul LEE, Associate Librarian.

Scholarly Talk
Prof. Ruby Lal from Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Emory University, delivered a lecture entitled "Feminist Landscapes: Teaching and Writing the History of India". Professor Lal discussed the lives of nineteenth-century Indian women and the history of Mughal Empress Nur Jahan. She emphasised that gender studies provides a way of questioning the archive and reflecting on different viewpoints. Her interdisciplinary teaching and research experiences demonstrate that gender studies is more than an academic subject that encompasses lived experience and social development. The talk was chaired by Dr. David Schley from the History Department.
