粵語是在香港最常應用的語言，不論市井生活、文娛傳播，還是政經會議、教學洽談，均各有所適，雅俗皆宜。流行文化中的網絡潮語更顯粵語的生命力及包容度。一方土語能茁壯如此，當今中國亦屬罕見。然而，在時下倡議本土、守護母語的潮流之外，認識、梳理粵語演變，窺探粵語前世與今生的關係，也是鞏固社會族群認同的，更是傳承地方語言文化的重要任務。其實自19世紀初開始，粵港澳等地巳陸續有西方傳教士編撰的粵語辭典、課本、聖經等資料出版；稍後又有粵語傳誦的歌謠或故事結集成書；19世紀中後期再有較詳細的中英紀錄的香港地圖，都是研究粵語的瑰寶。是次座談冀從避諱、地名、特色詞彙、語法句式等方面切入，略析所見粵語讀音、用詞、表達等的脫舊變新的有趣現象。 [Go to the full record in the library's catalogue]
