SUMMARY : Two things are of particular importance in today's world: how we can gain a better understanding of what religion is and how it works, and what human love is and how it works. It sometimes seems that scientific contributions on these great humanistic themes have been less than useful, but very recent work on altruism in evolutionary anthropology and on human bonding in the neuroscience of social cognition casts intriguing new light on both religion and love. The challenge at present is to develop philosophical and theological discourses which can represent the key structures and processes within us which have previously been hidden from view.  [Go to the full record in the library's catalogue]
