Jointly organized by the Department of History, Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, Mr Simon Suen and Mrs Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute, and the Gender Studies Concentration, the Third Forum on Recent Research in Gender and Ming-Qing Culture was held online on 10 December, 2021 (HKT) with distinguished speakers from five different time zones.

Convened by Prof Clara Ho (HIST) and Prof Hongsheng Zhang (SHI), the first and second Forum were held face-to-face in 2015 and 2017 respectively. The Conveners have moved the third Forum online to feature 22 senior international scholars from renowned institutions in USA (Stanford, UCs, Tufts, Wellesley, Michigan, Wisconsin Madison, Rice, Cal State), Canada (McGill), China (Renmin), Taiwan (Academic Sinica, NTU, NCCU, and NCU) and Hong Kong (HKU, HKBU), who shared their latest research topics in Ming-Qing Gender Culture with nearly 300 participants in a lively virtual conversation. The Forum was livestreamed on YouTube and has reached over 200 views within five days after it was delivered.

The Forum was a star-studded event with gender scholars who focus on history, literature, arts, religion, law, medicine, etc. Through this online forum, scholars introduced their latest research projects with unique and insightful perspectives. The success of the event not only demonstrated the rich aspects on gender research but also provide new vision to young scholars and students interested in Ming-Qing China.  [Go to the full record in the library's catalogue]
