This talk will cover the development of official film-making in HK from 1945 to the appearance of government television film-making in the early 1970s. The talk will cover the work of the Hong Kong Film Unit, from 1959 to 1973, and the evolution of the Film Unit into Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). The talk will discuss issues related to conflicts over editorial autonomy, and the policy towards film-making and broadcasting within the colonial government.
