Important industrial innovations such as automobile, airplane, cargo container, electronic computer, smart phone, skyscraper buildings, etc., can be shown to be operating in line with Laozi’s principle of 有與無, proposed some 2500 years ago. If this appears to be surprising, one will be stunned to find Laozi’s principle was playing an even larger role in cloud computing, big data analytics, intelligent robot and personalised medicine, leading our way toward the knowledge economy. In this hybrid seminar, we are honoured to have Prof Otto Lin, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, to be our speaker. Prof Lin will illustrate Laozi’s principle on innovation from three aspects: source of innovation, implementation of innovation and, innovators’ preparedness for a changing environment. It is hoped that this exchange will stimulate more interests in understanding the legacy and impacts of Laozi for the modern time.
