Hong Kong Baptist University is SCET’s Global Partner representative from Hong Kong. This engagement provides the opportunities for –
• Bi-directional exchange of students.
• Access to developing internship opportunities at Berkeley and in the Silicon Valley.
In mid-August, 12 HKBU students travelled to The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) to participate in a five-day intensive Bootcamp. For this learning trip of a lifetime, generously sponsored by Professor Shih Wing Ching and organised by the Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), they had to first pitch their ideas successfully at the three-day HKBU Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 2017 held on HKBU campus earlier in April. Representing HKBU were three student teams and one start-up team. The student teams included WorldClass, an online tutorial platform; Homeal which uses a sharing economy model to connect cooks to customers; and Ledo Ads, an end-to-end service for placing advertisements on previously idle spaces such as restaurant tabletops. Cathay Photonics, the start-up team and namesake of the company set up by Professor Cheah Kok-wai, Chair Professor of Physics, outpitched 22 other teams from 20 countries.
