SUMMARY : This project aims at preserving and making accessible the cultural values and skills of traditional bamboo theatre for Cantonese Opera to the Hong Kong Community. It works in tandem with the design and construction of the bamboo theatre for the 2014 Chinese New Year Cantonese Opera performances at the site of the future West Kowloon Cultural District. The deliverables of this project are: 1) a documentary film that focuses on the traditional skills and modern application of the bamboo theatre architecture; 2) a series of public seminar on the knowledge of bamboo theatre: and 3) a teaching kit about bamboo theatre architecture as Hong Kong cultural heritage tailored made for the Hong Kong Upper Secondary Liberal Studies Curriculum. This project will generate knowledge on this particularly cultural heritage, and the transformations and uses of cultural heritage in modern contexts in general. The Centre for Community Development acts as the external partner of this project providing access to and necessary information of the bamboo theatre, contributing to the data collection and treatment from the professional perspective, and collaborating in the screening, distributing and dissemination of the deliverables resulting from this project.
